Privacy Policy
Murph Capital LLC ("Murph Capital", "we", "us", or "our") operates the VC fund benchmarking tool at this website. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to it. By using the tool you agree to the practices described here.
1. Data We Collect
1a. Automatically collected data
Like most web services, our infrastructure (Google Cloud Run) may log standard HTTP request metadata — IP address, browser user-agent, referrer URL, and timestamp — for security and operational monitoring. These logs are retained for up to 30 days and are not used for tracking or advertising.
1b. Fund comparison data (opt-in only)
The "Your Fund" widget lets you enter performance metrics. By default nothing is transmitted — all computation happens in your browser.
If you explicitly opt in by checking the consent box, we collect and store in Google Cloud Firestore:
- An anonymous session identifier (randomly generated in your browser, not linked to you);
- Vintage year and fund size bracket;
- Performance metrics you entered: Net IRR, DPI, TVPI, MOIC (any you chose to fill in);
- Fund name, if you chose to enter one (optional);
- Timestamp of submission.
We do not collect your name, email address, IP address, or any other personally identifiable information through the opt-in form.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Aggregate benchmark improvement: Opted-in fund metrics are combined with other submissions in aggregate, anonymised form to improve cohort quartile calculations.
- Product analytics: We may use aggregated, anonymised usage patterns to understand which cohorts are most used and where to focus data quality efforts.
- Legal compliance: We may retain or disclose data as required by applicable law or valid legal process.
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.
3. Data Storage and Security
Opted-in submissions are stored in Google Cloud Firestore (GCP region: us-central1). Access is restricted to Murph Capital's server-side API — there is no direct client access to the database. Data at rest is encrypted by Google Cloud's default encryption. Data in transit is protected by TLS 1.2+.
We retain submitted fund data indefinitely for benchmark improvement purposes. If you wish to request deletion of a specific submission, contact us with your session ID (displayed after submission) at andrei@murph.capital.
4. Cookies and Tracking
We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or analytics services (such as Google Analytics). We do not use cookies to track you across sites. No personal data is shared with advertising networks.
5. Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following infrastructure providers to operate the tool:
- Google Cloud Platform (Cloud Run, Firestore) — hosting and database. Subject to Google's data processing terms.
Benchmark data is sourced from third-party providers (Carta, PitchBook, Aduro Advisors, AngelList, Cambridge Associates). We do not share your submitted data with these providers.
6. Children's Privacy
This tool is intended for investment professionals and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because the opt-in form does not collect identifying information by design, we can only act on deletion requests accompanied by the session ID associated with your submission.
California residents: this tool does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising; no opt-out is required.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the effective date above. Continued use of the tool after any change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
